I bought these from a market stall, where I sat and chatted with the vendor for a while. He wasn’t able to tell me much about who painted them, or what they were made of. But they were so beautiful I could picture them in simple wooden frames, the vivid colours glowing. I’m going to track down the original artists
The prints are mostly traditional – elephants and apsara dancers – although two of the elephants are done in a more modern lithographic style. They have an incredible amount of detail and the colours shine.
Each piece is about 12” square with a wide border ‘pinked’ against fraying. I have ironed one that was creased by reversing it and covering it with a towel, then ironing the towel gently. I would not recommend washing them as I don’t know how colour-fast the paint is. They’ve been backed with thin paper for transport, and will be posted rolled up.
